The Portuguese verbs present high of inflection. A typical regular verb has over fifty different forms, expressing up to six different grammatical tenses and three moods.

Regular verbs belong to one of three conjugation classes, distinguished by conserve their root; and by the ending of their infinitive forms. Verbs ending in –ar belong to the first conjugation, the verbs ending in –er belong to the second conjutation and verbs ending in –ir belong to the third conjugation)
